Wisdom’s Protection

Healing from narcissistic abuse initially feels like hauling off boulders of emotional pain and heaving stones of despair over the fence. For believers, this focused work fits under the broader umbrella of becoming more like Christ, i.e. sanctification.

For the LORD gives wisdom, from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs 2:4 (NLT)

My desperate heart sought God’s wisdom and direction as the mental fallout of life with a narcissist took its toll on my health, my energy, and my heart. Along with a godly, narcissist-informed counselor, God provided spiritual direction through Scripture, His roadmap for such a treasure hunt.

As I journey, I try to focus on the to-dos’ offered in Proverbs 2:1-4.

1. turning my ear toward His wisdom;

2. applying my heart to understanding;

3. calling for insight;

4. crying aloud for understanding;

5. looking for understanding/wisdom as for silver;

6. searching for understanding/wisdom as for hidden treasure.

Even when I felt that my cries only released my anguish, God heard each one. He used

those early days of despair to set my heart on a path—a quest for His wisdom. Along

with guidance from Scripture, God also responded with information and companionship

with others walking a similar path.

Because of the gifts of wisdom, wise counsel, and companionship, I now have a

foundation for making sense of my life and renewed faith for embracing God’s future

graces.

Father, thank You for providing understanding, insight, and wisdom through Your Word

and through those who love You. Continue to bring new awareness of truths that help

me find my way forward and into Your love. May You be glorified in each step I take. In

the name of Your Son, the Living Word, I pray. Amen.
