The Spirit of Wisdom

Healing from narcissistic abuse initially feels like hauling off boulders of emotional pain and heaving stones of despair over the fence. For believers, this focused work fits under the broader umbrella of becoming more like Christ, i.e. sanctification.

I keep asking that the God of our lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better.

A church marquee posted in bold black letters, “Genuine love expects nothing in return.” Collections of blanket statements like this contributed to my on-going and imbalanced giving, loving, sacrificing, and forgiving of my narcissistic spouse, while expecting nothing in return.

I recently paused when reading “No one is beyond the reach of God’s restoration.” This comment challenged a realization I finally accepted after many years of experience—radical acceptance that the narcissist’s actions would not be changing.

Integrating what I understood about narcissism with biblical truth and the author’s intent helped me regain my emotional footing. The author intended the statement, “No one is beyond the reach of God’s restoration,” to offer hope to me for what needs changing in my life. Ironically, the statement is also true for a narcissist—if they are willing to admit anything needs changing. The narcissist’s roadblock is their distorted belief that if a problem exists, others must be the source, and others must do the changing.

I am thankful for God’s Holy Spirit Who is always available to help me apply biblical truth to my life and to my specific situation. His presence and guidance bring me the peace and truth I so desperately seek.

Father, thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to guide me to truth that comforts my soul and calms the confusion in my mind. I treasure the discernment and clarity He offers. I pray in the name of Your Son, Jesus, Who made all these provisions possible, amen.
