Sufficient Grace

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Supportive friends gifted me a necklace to be engraved with a scripture verse of my choosing. Months of suffering a challenging illness combined with my caregiving narcissist husband’s lack of emotional support influenced my selection—Jesus’ words to Paul in 2nd Corinthians 12, “My grace is sufficient for you.”.
I wear my necklace with Jesus’ promise each day as I find my way through the maze of healing from the abuse of narcissism. However, the complex journey also requires me to focus on the second part of that same promise, “…for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Cor. 12:9b).
When emotional and psychological weariness weaken my courage to face reality, make decisions, and take steps of action, I remember God’s grace and strength. I offer silent prayers of, “Father, give me strength and focus to see what I need to see, to understand what I need to understand, and to accomplish what I need to accomplish today.”
God was faithful to bring me through the illness and through the early stages of breaking free from narcissistic abuse. I trust God to continue providing His power and grace for making the decisions each day requires as well as alert to opportunities for proclaiming to others the sufficiency of His grace.
Father, I rejoice that You are the same yesterday and today and forever (Heb. 13:8). Thank you for offering the same grace and strength for me as you did for Paul and for making a way when weakness and despair immobilize me. Knowing that Your sufficient grace will never run out and will be with me all the remaining days of my life comforts me beyond measure. In the name of Your grace-filled Son, Jesus, I pray, amen.
