Be strong and courageous….
Joshua 1:9
Concentrated focus on healing from a narcissistic relationship distracted me from noticing narcissists elsewhere in my life. When a consultant overstepped their boundary creating chaos and discord, I blamed myself for falling victim.
As I discussed the experience with my counselor, his perspective surprised me. “There is no need to be shocked by a cloaked narcissist. They are skilled at deception. I imagine there will be more encounters with such people in the future. Be kind to yourself and thankful for knowing how to emotionally regroup as quickly as you did.”
His prediction of future contact with narcissists offered two options—retreat from life in fear or move forward in courage. Four times in Joshua, Chapter 1, God tells Joshua to, “Be strong and courageous.”
To walk forward requires determination and strength of character, the same qualities Joshua needed for his battles. It also requires hearing with my heart the rest of the instructions of God to Joshua, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).
Father, use this experience to heighten my discernment and increase my confidence that I am never alone when facing deceivers. Prompt me with Your presence and Your protection as I trust You to direct and redeem my experiences for Your glory. In the name of Your redeeming Son, I pray, amen.
