Standing

…after you have done everything, … stand.
I stopped counting the times my heart splintered, emotionally fragmented by narcissistic wounding. Curling up under a fluffy blanket with Coco, my Chihuahua, I created a soft-landing place for my heart and for my tears.
During those safe times, I let my emotions wash over me like a wave, trusting that they would subside in time. Eventually, commitments required me to get up, get dressed, and reconnect with the rhythm of life outside of my safe-haven.
The Apostle Paul offers directives for similar shattering situations. He reminds me of frequently overlooked dynamics that also contribute to life’s wounding and shredding process:
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand” (Ephesians 6:10-13).
Father, thank You for empowering me with Your Holy Spirit during difficult times. I ask for wisdom to identify when I come against spiritual warfare and to stand confidently in Your strength against Satan’s schemes. I acknowledge that naivety has no place in a believer’s life. I choose to stand in Your strength and power. In the name of Your victorious Son, Jesus, I pray, amen.
