Safe in God’s Love

Healing from narcissistic abuse “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Rather than a question, Paul was stating a fact.

If God is for us….

Romans 8:31

The word “If” is a tiny word with big meaning. Paul used it when he posed what seemed to be a rhetorical question. “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Rather than a question, Paul was stating a fact. God is for us, and He proved it by sending His Son and His Holy Spirit.

Paul continued listing hardships and declaring us “triumphant conquerors.” Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?... No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us (Romans 8:35, 37 NIV).

Paul could have added narcissistic abuse to that list, but the words, trouble, hardship, and persecution suffice.

He continues: For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39 NIV). This clarifies why Paul could confidently state, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” These trials do not separate us from God’s love.

Whisper this truth to your heart through your tears and as you drop off to sleep. Nothing can separate me from God’s love.

Father, forgive me when I doubt Your love. Hold my heart when I weep and move me further into awareness of Your constant care. Open my eyes to see it. Strengthen my faith to persevere toward the future you have prepared for me. Amen
