Remembering God’s Faithfulness

…the moon, the faithful witness in the sky.
I often recall my dorm room experience of reading Psalm 89. That evening, the moon transformed from one of many celestial bodies into a shining symbol of God’s faithfulness.
The author, Ethan the Ezrahite, points to the moon as a “faithful witness” to God’s covenant with David. He also prays for God to remain faithful during the current challenging times.
Years passed and fussy babies disturbed my sleep. The moon’s rays often shone through nursery curtains to encourage me of God’s guidance and presence in my insecure parenting. Later it reassured me of God’s presence while waiting for those babies-turned-teenagers to arrive home safely.
The moon’s brilliance currently accompanies me through lonely and restless evenings as I await the sweet release of sleep. Full moons shine through an upper window reminding me, as in previous seasons of life, God will faithfully guide me through this unexpected new one.
I trust God to continually assure me of His presence as I discover, uncover, grieve, and heal from the painful results of a soul-unraveling narcissistic relationship. For that, I cite Ethan’s closing words, “Praise be to the LORD forever! Amen and Amen” (Psalm 89:52).
Father, thank you for the ways You encourage me with a consistent reminder of Your faithfulness for so many years. The constancy of the moon, day and night, and the seasons provide predictability and steadiness. I choose to trust that Your faithfulness will accompany me into the future and into each day that awaits me. In the name of Your Creator Son, Jesus, I pray, amen.
