Love and Grief

…the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.

Genesis 6:5-6

The girls took turns rocking and offering drops of milk to a newborn bunny, delivered to them by our very proud Yorkie. A call to the vet revealed it had no chance of surviving its wound. My heart ached as I observed their deep grief for the loss of that tiny life.

God understands grief. Two verses in Genesis capture an example of His grief.

Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. … and He was grieved in His heart (Genesis 6:5-6).

Navigating the complex grief journey when healing from narcissistic abuse requires compassionate self care and wise counsel. We not only grieve what happened but also what did not happen—dreams and expectations. Our heavenly Father will grieve with us as we navigate that healing path. We are not alone.

Father, thank you that You moved beyond Your grief to provide a solution for mankind’s sins. Thank you that You walk with us through our grief journey offering compassion, tenderness, and guidance through Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for showing us how to trust You as we find our way toward healing and wholeness. Amen

*All verses are NKJV.
