I could recognize the melody but not the words as my son sang his daughter to sleep. She often called him to sing as she dozed off. I marveled at his gift of song. She will treasure those whispered melodies in the tenderest parts of her memories forever. Little Caroline has experienced a rarity, being quieted by her father’s song and love.
Zephaniah, a prophet, pictured God’s love toward the humble as rejoicing over them with singing, and quieting them with His love.
The LORD your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love. He will rejoice over you with singing (Zephaniah 3:17 NKJV).
Anyone who experiences narcissistic abuse desperately longs for God’s gentle Spirit to quiet their soul with His love.
This truth—that I have a heavenly Father who rejoices over me—provides comfort when sleep eludes me. Recounting glimpses of God’s presence during the day reminds me that I, too, have a Father singing over me.
Father, open our hearts and minds to see demonstrations of Your love. When we are anxious or lonely, remind us that Your love surrounds us, and then teach us how to rest our thoughts and hearts within it. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
