More than a Conqueror

…we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
On a feeling-defeated day, I paused to consider the Apostle Paul’s statement, …we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37). I wondered what it meant to be more than victorious? What could be more victorious than the victories of healing from the wounds of narcissistic abuse?
Paul skillfully details the battle scene: Nothing can separate us from Christ’s love—not trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword. In all these things …we are more than conquerors through him who loved us (Rom. 8:35, 37).
I soon discovered I pursued a short-sighted goal. When I seek victory for the next step in healing, God wants to accomplish more. He desires to heal, as well as to grow me spiritually, preparing me for eternity with Him.
Chuck Swindoll helps clarify this eternal goal: “…Scripture invites us to consider a wider perspective (on suffering), one where our current chapter is part of a larger story God is writing, not just in our lives but in the lives of countless others. Nothing is wasted.
God offers even more within the victory of healing from narcissistic abuse: increased wisdom, maturing love for God, and stronger faith. With these spiritual victories, I truly will be more than a conqueror.
Dear Father, open my eyes each day to all the ways You engage with me. I long to possess Your vision for eternal values rather than my short-term goals. I open my heart to Your gentle touch as You mold and shape me for eternity with You. In the name of Your conquering Son, Jesus Christ, I pray, amen.
